Where the call gets lost.

The moments a handyman services business misses the phone, and what each one costs.

Both hands are busy when the phone rings

Holding a ceiling fan overhead, setting a toilet, feathering a drywall patch: the moment the phone rings is never a moment you can answer. So it goes to voicemail, and the homeowner with a list of eight small jobs calls the next name. Small jobs do not feel worth chasing, but eight of them is a full day at your rate.

Property managers want a yes today

A property manager with a tenant's broken closet door and a leaking faucet has a work order to close and a list of vendors. They call the first name and move on if it rings out. Win that call and you have a steady account; miss it and the manager quietly moves you down the list without ever telling you.

Every job starts with a conversation you do not have time for

A handyman call is never one question. It is a description of the problem, a guess at how long it takes, whether you carry the part, and when you can come. That conversation takes five minutes, and you are usually on someone else's clock when it comes in. Callbacks at seven in the evening reach people who have already made other plans.

What Ansurra does on the call.

The receptionist, in handyman services terms.

The list is taken down before you ever call back

Ansurra asks what needs doing and lets the caller list it: a sticking door, two towel bars, a patch where the old TV mount was, a running toilet. It records the items, the address, the best callback number, and any detail you have asked it to collect, such as whether the caller has the parts. The whole list is in your email and dashboard before you finish the job you are on.

Your rate and minimum, quoted exactly

If you charge an hourly rate with a two-hour minimum, or a half-day and full-day rate, Ansurra quotes it word for word from your price list. Jobs you price after seeing them, such as a deck repair or a fence section, are described that way and the visit is booked. It never guesses how long a job takes or promises a number you did not set.

Visits booked on your calendar, not double-booked

Ansurra offers only the times genuinely open on your calendar and books the visit live, then emails the customer a confirmation and a reminder the day before. Callers who want a standing visit, such as a quarterly maintenance check for a rental or a monthly round for an elderly parent's house, can be booked as a recurring series in one call.

The burst pipe goes to your cell; the towel bar waits until tomorrow

A tenant with water coming through a ceiling gets transferred to your cell, straight through or with a one-line briefing first. The homeowner who wants shelves hung next week gets the next open slot. Ansurra tells the two apart, and after hours it takes a detailed message for the urgent one and emails it to you so you can decide whether to go tonight.

A call, start to finish.

How a call to Oak & Anchor Handyman — a fictional business — plays out. The receptionist only offers times its calendar shows free and only quotes what the owner's price list says.

CallerHi, I've got a few things. A bedroom door that won't latch, a towel bar that pulled out of the drywall, and I need a ceiling fan put up in the living room.
AnsurraWe can take care of all three in one visit. Do you already have the ceiling fan, and is there an existing light fixture where it's going?
CallerYes, the fan's in the box, and there's a light there now. What do you charge?
AnsurraOur rate on the price list is ninety-five dollars an hour with a two-hour minimum, and the handyman will confirm how long your list takes when he sees it. I have Tuesday at eight in the morning or Wednesday at one in the afternoon.
CallerTuesday at eight. It's forty-two Pemberton Court in Ashford.
AnsurraGot it, forty-two Pemberton Court. Could I get your name and an email for the confirmation and reminder?
CallerGreg Halloran, and it's ghalloran at valleymail dot net.
AnsurraThanks, Greg. You're booked for Tuesday at eight with Oak and Anchor, and I've noted the door, the towel bar and the fan.

Ansurra vs. what you use today.

Voicemail, an answering service, a person at the desk: what each still does better, and what it costs.

Against voicemail

A handyman's voicemail fills with half-described jobs and numbers you call back at dusk, when people are at dinner. Ansurra has the whole conversation on the first ring: the list, the address, the rate, the time. The customer hangs up with an appointment and a confirmation email, and you read the list at the next red light.

Against a traditional answering service

A live answering service can take a message. It cannot see your calendar, so the customer waits for you to call, and it cannot ask whether the ceiling fan is already in the box. Ansurra books on your real calendar and asks the trade's questions. A human operator is still better with a customer disputing an invoice; Ansurra sends that call to you instead of handling it.

Against hiring help for the phone

A part-time scheduler is the right move when you have three trucks. With one, the wage is a large share of your take, and the phone still rings before eight and after five, which is when homeowners are home to call. Ansurra costs a flat monthly fee, works every hour, and hands you only the calls that need you.

How it works.

01

Paste your website

Ansurra reads your services, hours and service area and drafts its own knowledge. Add your price list if you want it quoting.

02

Forward your number

One dial code at your carrier — every call, or only the ones you miss. You keep the number your customers know.

03

It answers

From the next ring: it books on your calendar, emails confirmations, transfers emergencies to your cell and sends you every detail.

Handyman services, answered.

Can it take a whole list of small jobs on one call?

Yes. Ansurra lets the caller describe everything and records each item, along with the address, callback number and any custom detail you want collected, such as whether they have the parts. The list appears in the call summary in your dashboard and in your email, so you arrive knowing whether you need a drywall kit or a ladder.

I charge a two-hour minimum. Will it explain that properly?

It quotes your rate and minimum exactly as written in your price list, word for word, and does not estimate how many hours a job will take unless you have put a fixed price for that job on the list. Anything you price after seeing it is described that way, and the visit is booked so you can quote in person.

Property managers send us work orders. Can it handle those calls?

Yes. It collects the unit address, the tenant's contact details, the work order number if there is one, and how to get in, then books the visit or, if the manager wants to talk to you now, transfers the call to your cell with a one-line briefing. Managers who call often are recognized by number and greeted by name.

A tenant calls at eleven at night about water coming through the ceiling. Then what?

Ansurra treats it as urgent. It will transfer the call to your cell, straight through or with a brief spoken summary first, and if you do not pick up it takes the address, a description of what is happening and a callback number, then emails you immediately and tells the caller when to expect you. The shelf-hanging call, by contrast, is booked for the next open slot.

What calendar does it book on, and can I still block my own time?

It books on your Google Calendar or Cal.com, live during the call, offering only the times that are open. Block out a personal morning or a big job and Ansurra will not offer that time. When nothing suits the caller, it offers a waitlist spot and tells them when a slot frees up, so a cancelled afternoon does not stay empty.

Is twenty-nine dollars a month realistic for a one-person operation?

The Starter plan is twenty-nine dollars a month for sixty talk minutes, which suits a solo handyman whose calls are short. Growth is forty-nine for one hundred eighty minutes if the phone is busier. Extra minutes are thirty-five cents. The free trial is twenty talk minutes on the real product with no card, there are no contracts, and the first payment has a fourteen-day money-back guarantee.
